The importance of management to the success of educational organizations should always be introduced. The importance has been enhanced by a global worldview towards school based-management, especially in terms of the management of resources.
“We need to again improve our school educational management, particularly in terms of the management of resources.” Chairman of the Kedungpring’s Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Representative Council Board (MWC NU), Drs Khamim Baidlowie, MM said at a seminar held in Majenang Village, Kedungpring Subdistrict, Lamongan Regency, East Java, on Sunday.<>
The seminar taking up issues related to the management of quality in school was part of the collaboration of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), Indonesia’s British Council, Kedungpring's MWC NU and the Majenang’s Nurul Huda Foundation.
Present at the occasion to be speakers were Dr. Abdul Kadir Riyadi (lecturer of Surabaya’s State Institute of Islamic Studies/IAIN) and Sudarto Murtaufiq, S.Th.I (alumnus of the Education Management Training, University of Leeds, UK, 2007).
Respecting educational management, Abdul Kadir Riyadi said that it had so far developed as a specialized discipline in its own right and “is concerned primarily with the improvement of teaching and learning process” .
The 37 year old man explained theoretical models that are useful both as a means of evaluating management practice and as a means of structuring educational management research.
“There are many theoretical approaches, so whichever is selected must be appropriate to the purpose of the research being carried out. Some studies combine more than one approach when they are logically compatible and mutually reinforcing,” Riyadi said.
Riyadi further elaborated each of eight theoretical approaches that have a potentially wide application to issues of educational management.
“One of the eight theoretical approaches is a bureaucratic model focusing on the rational goal and internal process,” Riyadi said.
“ In terms of education, it can be applied to the study of organizational structures that are conducive to the achievement of goals, namely professional roles and the exercise of authority within organizations and also the coordination of personnel and subunits within the organization,” he added.
While Murtaufiq who is also an Islamic “santri” student of Ciganjur Islamic boarding “Pesantren” school focused more on issues dealing with the principles of quality assurance.
Murtaufiq at least explained nine contrasting views of quality having strengths and weaknesses when applied to the educational context.
“The most important of the nine contrasting views is what so-called as total quality management emphasizing people, ethics, culture as well as quality systems directed to ensuring the commitment of all members of the organization to continuous improvement,” he said.
The seminar was also attended by a large number of local educational practitioners and scores of members of the Kedungpring’s MWC NU. (dar)
