President Vladimir Putin of Russia plans to visit Indonesia before the end of this year, an Indonesian official said here on Saturday.
"Before the end of 2007 President Putin is indeed scheduled to visit Indonesia," Indonesian foreign ministry spokesman Kristiarto Legowo said without mentioning any date.<>
He said the visit was aimed at increasing the two countries` relations. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited Russia last year.
Antara news agency reported, the relations between the two countries are increasingly important, as revealed in the fourth Indonesia-Russia Commission meeting.
The head of the Russian delegation to the meeting, Vladimir Strazhalkovsky who is deputy to the minister of tourism, said the close relations between the two countries were also seen in the increasing frequency of meetings between the two countries` officials.
The Indonesian delegation chief, Eddi Hariyadi, meanwhile said the two countries` relations had to be translated into economic cooperation so that the results could be felt by the people of the two countries.
The Russian delegation to the meeting consists of government officials and businessmen. They had discussed the future of the two countries` cooperation with their Indonesian counterpart in the two-day meeting on June 14-15 including cooperation in economy and trade, nuclear technology, aviation, environment, agriculture, business, banking, sports and youth affairs.
