Until the third week of July, the NU Branch Board of Probolinggo, East Java, has not yet determined the beginning of the month Ramadan this year. Wheras, the beginning of the fasting month has been eagerly awaited by the Muslims, especially in the region.

"We are still awaiting instructions from NU. If we had certainty, we living at villages will follow (the intructions), " the PCNU chairman Maksum Subani told NU Online here on Thursday.

Subani who is also the head of the Probolinggo's Social Affairs Department explained that the long-standing tradition used by the country's largest Muslim organization was the direct hilal sighting method, better known as rukyat, to determine the beginning and the end of Ramadhan.

When he attended the 85th anniversary of NU in Jakarta recently, Subani said that there was no any information from NU in regard with the first day of the much-awaited month of Ramadhan.
As reported by masjidtucson.org, The first day of Ramadan is August 1, 2011, and the last day of Ramadan is August 29, 2011 for the Middle East, Turkey, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand etc.

The Night of Destiny (Night of Power) will be, God willing, on August 25, 2011 for those places that start fasting on July 31, and August 26, 2011 for those countries that start Ramadan on August 1. (mkf)
