President contributes sacrificial animal to Istiqlal Mosque

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono handed a cow as sacrificial animal to Istiqlal mosque after performing Idul Adha prayer here on Wednesday.

"My family and I give a sacrificial cow to Istiqlal grand mosque to be slaughtered and distributed to all members of the congregation and whoever deserve its meat," President Yudhoyono said as he handed the cow.<<>br />
In the company of First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, the president handed the sacrificial cow to the chairman of the mosque executive management board, H Mubarok.

Besides the head of state, Vice President Boediono also had a sacrificial cow for Istiqlal mosque but he was unable to hand the animal directly because he was on a working visit to Japan and South Korea.

After all sacrificial animals had been handed to the mosque`s management, all congregation members said a prayer and then the president and the first lady left the mosque.

On the occasion of Idul Adha this year, the Istiqlal mosque management board received 17 sacrificial cows and 318 sacrificial goats.

Those animals will be slaughtered on Wednesday evening and the meat will be distributed to the public.

The committee has provided 5,000 coupons for the public and the recipients will receive a kilogram of sacrificial each meat later. (dar)
