Hasyim calls on Nahdliyin to reinvigorate their mosques in preserving Aswaja

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi called on Nahdliyin (NU followers) to reinvigorate their msoques as the place to study advanced learning in the theology of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah.

"In this regard, regular learning activities using classical books (kitab kuning), which is now often abandoned, must be reestablished, so that Nahdliyin can defend themselves against other ideologies' offense," Hasyim said at the celebration of the NU's 82nd anniversary at the Jakarta's Bung Karno Stadium on sunday (3/1).<>

Hasyim said that the 31st Congress of the Nahdlatul Ulama in Solo had mandated the PBNU to organize its members and followers.

In this respect he was of view, there was a need to review the NU organization "and strengthen its management, aiming at establishing a modern organizational system that remains upholding the traditions and character of the NU."

Dealing with the quality of education within the NU educational institutions, the caretaker of the Malang's Pesantren Al Hikam suggested that there was no other way but to improve it in various sectors.

He further explained that the improvement of education and quality as well as independency of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) for instance, would be such priority agenda of the NU. (dar)
