Gus Yahya said as in the main theme of this year's Dutch PCINU international conference, how to imagine the role of religion in a world that is currently in crisis.

"The crisis is not only in the form of the Covid-19 pandemic but also a multidimensional crisis," said Gus Yahya at the opening of the Conference, Monday (23/8/2021).

According to him, a big vision is needed that goes beyond the various emerging crises, namely the vision to achieve a harmonious and just world order.

"International forums such as this conference could once again be an opportunity to sharpen these ideals," he added.

Gus Yahya said that since two years ago, he had committed to fully support the conference held by the Dutch PCINU. This program is an effort that is in line with its struggle to create a new world order based on humanitarian values and universal ethics.

Previously, the keynote speaker, Ulil Absar Abdala, at the conference said that the theme of Reimagining Religion in the Time of Crisis underlined the theme of the crisis in relation to the history of Islamic civilization.

Then, the change from religious authority to legal authority marked the growing influence of the new legal system which was originally known as the Napoleon Code. The third crisis, according to Ulil, is "the exclusion of philosophy and theology in Islamic education system".

The orgainzing committee chief, Yus Sa'diyah, said that what was conveyed by both Gus Ulil and Gus Yahya became a trigger for presenters to be able to contribute more to the activities during the week of the conference.

"We are grateful for the support of various institutions, including the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in The Hague, the Netherlands-Indonesia Consortium for Christian Muslim Relations (NICMCR), and the Nuffic-Neso NL Alumni Network Indonesia so that this activity can be carried out successfully," Yus said.
