We the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) announce that in determining the beginning of Ramadhan 1429 (Islamic calendar), the rukyatul hilal team set up by the PBNU/the Committee of Astronomy of Nahdlatul Ulama successfully saw the crescent (hilal) on Sunday, 31 August 2008 in recommended locations.

Based on the result of the rukyatul hilal and in accordance with the fatwa (verdict) of the four mainline schools (Madzahibul Arba'ah), the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama announce that:

THE BEGINNING OF RAMADHAN 1429 H (ISLAMIC CALENDAR) FALLS ON SUNDAY, 1 SEPTEMBER 2008

Happy Ramadhan to Nahdliyin (NU followers) and all Muslims. Make the Ramadhan as such spiritual momentum in purifying ourselves by increasing taqwa (piety) and reciting the Qur'an, zikr and doing any other religious activities. Hopefully Allah Almighty will receive our fasting. Amiin!
