No freedom to insult

The spirit of crusade has still come to the minds of European societies. Though they have claimed themselves as agnostics and atheists believing no Christian faith anymore, but their hostility to Islam has remained unchangeable. The insult to Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and the mockery of the holy Quran and Muslims in general have been such a ritual conducted both constantly and periodically. One time the mockery in Denmark could calm down following strong protest in the country. Similarly it has recently happened in Sweden and Dutch through its right-wing political figure in the country.

Why have the communities claiming themselves as enlightened and more advanced still campaigned the primitive acts while at the same time the government let them do anything they want in the name of freedom of creation and expression. It is one of modernity myopias in interpreting anything based on their own political interests. The act enable to damage the prestige of other nations and faiths and claim many victims has been seen as a mere freedom of expression instead of being considered as a criminal act. The European communities have not also felt to have such rights to ban the criminal act because they have been ensured by constitution.<>

Once colonial forever colonial. The term has so far been always voiced by our national activists, excepting European communities with their European Union intending to arouse the spirit of hostility. The cultural crime must be regarded as a crime, its broadening should be hampered and its actors must be punished. But what happened was not as expected; those committing the crime were ironically given freedom and rewarded over their courage breaking through convention.

So the persistence of the Film Censorship Board (LSF) supported by young people and ulema to defend the board is now really relevant to ban film circulation possibly enable to deprave the mental of young generations. While those liberal groups familiar with porn films want to erase the board for being accused of violating the 1945 Constitution. They even impolitely have insulted the members of the respected board. If their willingness is accommodated the religious nation would of course be in destruction. The making of porn films littered with sex scenes and violence is merely considered as such an information delivery that its freedom has been ensured.

Whereas the feature has great impact in depraving the nation’s mental. For that reason anti-morality movements have now been intensified by liberal groups especially activists campaigning women emancipation, viewing visible part of body (aurat) in public is not pornography but art. The insult and exploitation of women are regarded as the form of emancipation. The movements have also led astray including women Muslim circles. Many Muslim women has naively endorsed the pornography. Whereas it is an anti-moral movement that is the core of religious teaching.

That is why the liberal groups have a great interest if there have been conflicts between majority and minority including troubled minority. At the same time European communities have often seen the insult of religion as a trivial matter without any care anymore. They always ban people to protest and require them to remain within tolerance. Accepting the insult is considered as such a mature in religious practices. Whereas it is absolutely both stupidity and apathetic to criminality. Thus there is no reason to let freedom to insult others because it is a crime.

After all what defended by religious communities and the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) in particular is not a mere moral call. Rather it is a point of efforts of upholding the nation’s existence and dignity for a big and advanced nation is the one whose integrity and respected by other nations. So the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying that he was mandated to perfect human moral (buitstu liutammima makarimal akhlaq), it means he was also mandated to save fellow human beings.
