UN human rights commission chief to visit Indonesia

Chief of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights Louise Arbour is expected to pay a working visit here on July 9-14 at the invitation of the Indonesian government, an officer of the  UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)  said on Sunday.

Arbour’s visit will be a support for Indonesian efforts to promote and protect the human rights, both in the national and international region, Laksmita Noviera said.<>

During the visit, Arbour is slated to meet with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda, Minister for Legal and Human Rights Andi Mattalata and some senior officials, she said.

"She will also meet with representatives of the UN bodies here," Laksmita was quoted by Antara news agency as saying. 

The UN chief is also scheduled to jointly open the 14th annual regional workshop on the human rights promotion and protection in the Asia and Pacific to be held in Bali on July 10-12, she said.

She added the UN chief would also visit Aceh to gain information on the development of the peace process and the recovery process in the aftermath of the tsunami. (dar)
