Training of multimedia learning for Islamic schools’ teachers

A workshop initiated by former chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama law making body (Rais Syuriah) of Japan, Agus Zaenal Arifin is interesting to note especially for those educational practitioners willing to know more about multimedia learning.

Agus said the workshop was conducted to deal with the importance of multimedia learning to be introduced to teachers of Islamic schools (madrassa) in developing learning and teaching process.<>

The workshop held at the Faculty of Information Technology, Institute of Technology of 10 November Surabaya (ITS) over the weekend was participated by some 53 teachers from 12 madrassa in Surabaya, Sidoarjo and Lamongan.

“Generally the teachers are able to use computer just for the necessity of administration. Almost all teachers have not yet become accustomed to using internet,” Agus said.

The ITS lecturer said that the useful of computer—referring to the fact—in meeting the goal of learning and teaching process should be more focused on. Moreover, Agus added, each madrassa had approximately 2-20 package computers (PC).

In the meantime Agus also explained both technical matters in using the software and matters dealing with policy.

”But the existence (of the multimedia) at schools may not be such part of learning process without support from teachers’ high willingness and readiness from decision makers or school leaders,” Agus said.

That is why the purposeful workshop also discussed efforts aimed at increasing and fueling the willingness of teachers in using the software as part of important learning and teaching process.

”And the students must be given a binding certain schedule at computer room to use the software,” Agus said, adding the teachers should give opportunity and instruct their students to prepare themselves with the software before beginning study. (fir)
