Slamet Effendi Yusuf expresses his readiness to be NU chairman candidate

H. Slamet Effendi Yusuf (SEY), one of figures expressing his willingness to be one of NU general chairman candidates of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Wednesday visited NU Online, the official site of PBNU, Jln. Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta.

Slamet warmly welcomed by editor-in-chief of NU Online Abdul Mun'im DZ and deputy editor-in-chief of NU Online Suadi D. Pranoto expressed his readiness to be general chairman candidate of PBNU.<>

Slamet who is also a prominent man of the Golkar party denied rumors among NU circles that he wants to jump from the political world to the management of PBNU.

He made sure that he was not a fresh man within NU community, saying that he was ever active in the NU Student Association, Ansor Youth Movement.

Even during the KH Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid's era, Slamet was one of board members of PBNU in addition to being one of figures of what so-called as the Tim Sembilan in returning NU to its Khittah in 1980s.

"My readiness to be hopeful is not because of I have no job anymore. What I have received is already enough. Even I have rejected an offer to be ambassador. I think, leading NU is a challenge. As for me, following the Gus Dur's era NU should take such a jump," he said, adding that he would be ready to take the jump.

In the meantime, Slamet said that general chairman of PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi had a big contribution to NU especially in bringing the Nahdliyin-based organization to the international community and functioning the NU information media.

Not long after his visit to NU Online, another candidate, namely Masdar F. Mas'udi also visited the NU news portal. The two candidates later talked one another and posed with NU Online editorial men. (nam)
