SBY-Boediono pair wins in 22 provinces

The Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Boediono pair won in 22 of the country`s 33 provinces in the presidential election 2009, according to the temporary ballot counting result of the General Election Commission (KPU) here on Thursday.

The pair supported by the Democratic Party and 24 other political parties, won among other things in West Sumatra, North Sumatra, Aceh, Lampung, West Java, East Java, Jakarta, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, and North Sulawesi.<>

Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) and her running mate Prabowo Subianto of the Greater Indonesia Party (Gerindra) won in Bali and East Nusa Tenggara Provinces with the temporary ballot result of 5,261,268 or 28,55 percent of the total votes.

Meanwhile, the third presidential and vice presidential candidate, M Jusuf Kalla, chairperson of the Golkar Party, and Wiranto of the People`s Conscience Party (Hanura) won in three provinces, namely Southeast Sulawesi, West Sulawesi and Gorontalo. They got 1,798,956 votes or 9,76 percent of the temporary total ballot counting result.

Six provinces have not yet sent their counting results to KPU, namely East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua and West Papua, up to Thursday morning.

Data of the temporary ballot counting results were sent by regional presidential election organizers via cellphone`s short text messages (SMS).

Abdul Aziz, a KPU member, said earlier the result of the quick count was collected from around 100,000 polling stations, or 22 percent of the total polling stations (TPS).
"The counting result is temporary in nature and cannot be used as a reference," he said.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Boediono were leading not only according to the ballot counting version of KPU, but also in quick count conducted by several survey institutes.

Six survey institutes have placed Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his running mate Boediono in the first place with votes of more than 60 percent. In the second place Were Megawati Soekarnoputri and Prabowo with 27 percent, followed by Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto with around 12 percent. (ant/dar)
