Said Aqil Siradj proposed to lead NU

KH Said Aqil Siradj, popularly known as Kang Said, is proposed to be one of candidates willing to lead the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (BPNU).

Kang Said is considerably a figure eligible enough to deputize for KH Hasyim Muzadi in the much-awaited congress which will be held in Makassar, South Sulawesi, in January 2009.<>

Chairman of the West Kalimantan Regional Board of NU (PWNU) M Zeet Hamdy Assovie here Monday, saying that Kang Said is the best figure to lead the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization.

"There have been many many criteria making Kang Said appropriate to lead NU in the future," M. Zeet said.

M. Zeet was of the opinion that Kang Said who is now also one of the PBNU chairmen was a figure whose openess to other parties. Moreover, he added, Kang said earning his PhD in comparative religion and tasawuf was certainly a moderate man.

"Besides, he is gentle and stay consistent to implement (the teachings) of Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah," he said.

Such figures as KH Masdar F. Mas'udi, KH Mustofa Bisri, KH Ali Mascham moesa, M Nuh who is alo Minister of Communication and Information, have also reportedly been proposed to lead the Nahdliyin-based organization. (dar)
