RI, Russia to cooperate in public sector monitoring

Indonesia and Russia will sign an agreement to cooperate in public sector monitoring to develop transparency and accountability in state financial management in the respective countries, an Indonesian state audit official said.

The agreement will be signed by the Supreme Audit Board (BPK) and the Account Chamber of the Russian  Federation at the State Palace here on September 6, the BPK’s information and foreign relations bureau said in a report issued  here Wednesday.<>

BPK Chairman Anwar Nasution and his Russian counterpart, Sergey V. Stephasin, would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday when Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in Jakarta for a state visit.

Antara state news agency reported, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Putin were also scheduled to ink some other bilateral cooperation agreements.

The Indonesian Supreme Audit Board and its Russian counterpart had agreed to develop bilateral ties through a cooperation agreement  based on the principles of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the Asian Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI).

Accordingly, the two institutions would hold a public lecture on the topic of "External State Audit in the Russian Federation: Current Situation and Perspective" here on Sept 7. (dar)
