PPP depply disappointed over cabinet reshuffle

The United Development Party (PPP) said it was deeply disappointed and hurt by the cabinet reshuffle which was announced by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday where two of its cadres were replaced.

"We are unable to hide our disappoinment. We are deeply disappointed," PPP Chairman Suryadharma Ali told the press after holding an unscheduled meeting with memebrs of the PPP faction in the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Tuesday.<>

He said PPP was disappointed because two of its cadres in the United Indonesia Cabinet were replaced in the cabinet shakeup. They were State Enterprises Minister Sugiharto and Minister for Acceleration of Development of Least Developed Regions Syaifullah Yusuf.

But Ali also said although his party was disappointed, it would not become an opposition party to the current government. Its representatives in the DPR, however, would continue to show a critical attitude toward the government as they had done so far.

On Monday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono announced the lineup of his reshuffled cabinet.

Sofyan Djalil who was Communications and Informatics Minister was named State Minister for State Enterprises replacing Sugiharto.

Muhammad Nuh, former rector of Surabaya-based Institute of Technology (ITS) was named Minister for Communications and Informatics.

Hendarman Supandji, former junior attorney general for special crimes, was named Attorney General succeeding Abdul Rahman Saleh.

Hatta Radjasa, previously Transportation Minister, was appointed Minister/State Secretary replacing Yusril Ihza Mahendra.

Jusman Syafii Djamal, former president director of state-owned aircraft industry PT Dirgantara Indonesia and a member of the National Committee for Transportation Safety, was assigned as Transportation Minister replacing Hatta Radjasa.

Andi Mattalata, chairman of the Golkar Party faction in the House of Representatives, was named Law and Human Rights Minister succeeding Hamid Awaluddin.

Secretary general of the Nation’s Awakening Party (PKB) Muhamad Lukan Edy was named Minister for Acceleration of Developemnt of Least Developed Regions replacing Saifullah Yusuf. (ant/dar)
