General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has regretted the attitude of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono over the House's interpellation on Iran nuclear.

Hasyim asserted that the interpellation would have been perhaps overcome if President SBY could have attended the House's summon earlier.<>

"If he could come from the beginning, the interpellation problem on Iran would be in end," Hasyim said at the NU office, Jalan Kramat Raya 164 Jakarta on Wednesday (4/7).

According to Hasyim, the president's attitude could raise public suspicions. the public could in turn accuse president of hiding such agenda over his administration's support over the UN resolution 1747 dialing with Iran nuclear.

"What the House of Representatives (DPR) want is the reason and consideration on how Indonesia supports the 1747 resolution," Hasyim said, adding that the government had hidden agenda not to be made public.

The President of the World Conference on Religion for Peace urged President SBY to be courageous in attending the House session.

An earlier plenary session rejected a seven-member delegation of ministers sent by Yudhoyono to explain the government's stance on the Iran nuclear issue.

Several major factions at the House have demanded that Yudhoyono attend a plenary session on the matter.

The factions include the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, the National Mandate Party, the National Awakening Party, the Prosperous Justice Party and the United Development Party.

Yudhoyono's Democratic Party faction and the Prosperous Peace Party faction have stood in defense of the President's absence from the plenary session.

The two factions argued that House internal rulings allow either the President or his ministers to present the government's explanation on a given policy. (mkf)
