PBNU criticizes Ali Maschan's previous period

General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has expressed no great satisfaction over the previous performance of Ali Maschan Moesa as the chairman of the East Java Regional Board (PWNU).

Hasyim argued, for the last five years Maschan had not yet addressed the complexity of problems facing the PWNU.<>

"So far, Ali Maschan has still touched oral communication only like religious sermon and so on," Hasyim told reporters at the PBNU office on Tuesday, adding that there was no such substantially organizational performance.

Hasyim, who is also former chairman of the PWNU explained some important things having been not so far achieved by Maschan as the central figure of the organization.

He gave examples of the position of advisory board (syuriah) in terms of its relation to NU followers (Nahdliyin) at the grass root level and executive board (tanfidziyah) in organizing, governing, and managing the organizational system and work networks.

"So far, these have not yet addressed, carried out, or developed both proportionally and systematically," Hasyim said, explaining that East Java constituted the biggest NU basis in the country.

In consequence, he said, many primary duties had yet to be finished like the scene of many autonomous bodies of the PWNU running by themselves without any control.

Hasyim then expected the new chairman-elect of the PWNU for his second period to immediately focus more on
its internal duties.

At a three-day conference held at the Pondok Pesantren Zainul Hasan Genggong, an Islamic boarding school there were more than 500 participants of executive committee members and influential kyai (traditional ulema).

The participants elected KH. Miftahul Akhyar as the chairman of Rois Syuriah (the advisory board) and KH. Ali Maschan Moesa as the chairman of Tanfidziyah (the executive board). They will serve the East Java chapter of NU until 2012. (rif)
