Director of the Oxford Center for Islamic Studies (OCIS) Farhan Ahmad Nizami arrived at the headquarters of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) in Jakarta on Friday.
Nizami and his entourage were received by board members of the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization along with its institutions related to education.<<>br />
He said that his Indonesia's visit was aimed at looking closely at Indonesia as the world's most populous Muslim country.
"To know Indonesia, of course (we) should visit its largest Islamic organization," Nizami said.
Meanwhile chairman of PBNU Marsyudi Syuhud said NU is an Islamic organization having thousands of educational institutions such as schools, madrassa (Islamic schools), pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) and universities.
On the occasion, the two parties came to an agreement to seek possible partnerships by taking into account of the need and strength of both OCIS and PBNU.
During his Indonesia's visit, Nizami was accompanied by Afifi Al Akiti, one of staff at the OCIS, and had formerly ever studied at Kencong Islamic boarding school, Jember, East Java.
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) is a recognised Independent Centre of the University of Oxford, England. It was established in 1985 with the aim of encouraging the academic study of Islam and the Muslim world.
The Centre provides a meeting point between the Islamic and Western worlds of learning. Through good scholarship it promotes a more informed understanding of Islam - its culture and civilisation.
