Chairman of theNhadlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) of East Java KH Mutawakkil Alallah urged the government to take firm measures against any organizations for not acknowledging Pancasila as a state ideology.

The PWNU considered that the organizations could threaten the integrity of the Unitary State (NKRI) of Republic of Indonesia.

Mutawakkil made the remarks at a commemoration to celebrate the NU 85th anniversary at the Jombang's Merdeka Sport Center on Sunday (10/7).

Present at the occasion were deputy governor of East Java who is also former general chairman of the Ansor Youth Movement Syaifullah Yusuf.

Mutawakkil said there had recently been many organizations openly propagating the importance of establishing an Islamic state instead of ackowledging Pancasila as a state ideology.

"They want to the NKRI to be changed to a caliphate (system) if Indonesia wants to prosper," said Mutawakkil before thousands of attendees.

The growing movements in teaching ideas of the caliphate system was due to the lack of attention from the government in anticipating their presence.

In addition, he said, there had still been many Indonesians living under poor and vulnerable conditions. (mkf)
