Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) as the Indonesia's largest religious social organization has become a major force for Indonesian civil society. NU  should have a strong vision to take into account of all social elements.

Leader of Tebuireng Islamic boarding school KH Salahuddin Wahid (Gus Sholah) told NU Online here Tuesday, saying that to meet all this, NU should expectedly be able to position itself in all aspects of life.<>

"NU in the future should be able to take a significant role in any effort in developing potentials of society. Therefore, in the future NU should  determine its position clearly. So that every element of NU can play effectively in real actions," Gus Sholah said.

Gus Sholah admitted that NU had so far played very significant roles in influencing the political process in Indonesia. That means, he added, NU had become such a power can no longer be put aside in politics at any level.

However, he said, the Nahdliyin-based organization had not yet paid more attention to such sectors as labor and agriculture, whereas "there has been Nahdliyin" from the two sectors.

Gus Sholah expected in the future NU to be capable of organizing itself as a key civil society organization so that all social elements can make NU as their main pillar in addition to the government. All this, he said, was aimed at endorsing all NU boards to help maximally empower society. (min)
