General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi who is currently visiting the United States criticizes the country’s foreign policy.

An NU press release said here on Saturday that Hasyim made the criticism in a seminar on "Empowering the Indonesian Moderates to Combat Terrorism and Extremism" at John Hopkins University in Washington DC on Friday.<>

On the occasion, the NU chairman said the United States was frequently unfair and tended to apply double standard in responding to any issues in various part of the world.

Hasyim, who is concurrently the president of the World Conference on Religious for Peace (WCRP), pointed out that the United States had so far been trying to be understood but unfortunately failed to understand other parties.

"I hope the world can listen to the United States but it should also listen to the world".

He noted that if the United States wanted to be fair, the world problem such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would have been overcome.

Hasyim also criticized the country for its wrong approach in dealing with extremism in the world. (dar)
