In responding to Islamic groups spreading to villages which are possibly capable of having conflict potentials with Nahdliyin (NU followers), deputy lawmaking body of the Tegal's NU Branch Board KH Mahfudz called on Nahdliyin not to easily be provoked.
As for Mahfudz, since the beginning the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization had never involved itself in any conflict dealing with Islamic laws (syara').r />
He admitted receiving reports from NU board members in villages, saying there have recently been Islamic groups calling on people to return to what so-called as sunnah (Prophet's tradition) without taking into account of both ethics and norms in propagating Islamic teachings.
"After being analyzed by NU board members in villages, saying that they have no such intention to preach but to win people's heart to join their group," he told NU Online, adding that Nahdliyin should stay alert on possible emerging threat posed by their group.
"What is important from this fact is that we need to fortify Nahdliyin in order to remain being militant nahdliyin and not to be undermined by other groups or organizations. At least it starts from ourselves," he said. (miz)
