The UK Minority Faiths Advisor of the Department of Communities & Local Government Maqsood Ahmed OBE said here on Friday that his department was aimed at developing in which Muslims in the UK should feel part of a wider Britist society, actively condemn extremism and put in place diversionary and deradicalization activity for at risk group.

Dealing with the terorist attacks on 7 and 21 July 2005, he suggested that the authorities would take purposeful measures in addressing the issue of extremism by setting up the national forum on extremism and Islamophobia, holding country-wide roadshows of religious scholars and establishing the national advisory council of imams and mosques.

In accordance with the ICM poll for the Sunday Telegraph in February 2006, it showed that 20% of UK Muslims felt “sympathy” with the motives of the 7/7 bombers. That why he explained that “promoting understanding and shared values was a certainty.”

“Promote common values particularly through citizenship education and by addressing misperceptions/mistrust of UK policy. And the most important thing is how to develop an open dialogue with Muslims communities, particularly through new national forum on extremism and structured ministerial outreach strategy,” he said.
