Khofifah to deliver Islamic perspectives on women in politics

Chairwoman of Muslimat NU Khofifah Indar Parawansa has conducted a Ramadhan visit to Australia since 9 September to deliver the perspectives of Islam in regard with the women involvement in politics.

At a seminar held Thursday at University of Victoria Melbourne for instance, Khofifah spoke more about issues dealing with the perspectives of Islam in regard with the roles which can importantly be played by women in politics.<>

"Islam gives the same reward between men and women achievements. The women representation in politics is aimed at helping build a better political situation," Khofifah said.

Formerly the former minister for women empowerment in the KH Abdurrahman Wahid's administration held talks with NU students from Indonesia in Canberra. Here, she expected the master and doctorate candidates to arrange strategic measures in empowering the NU service for the ummah in the future.

The former chief of The National Family Planning Board (BKKBN) also held talks with Indonesian people at the Australian Indonesian embassy.

"There I also discussed with the NU Special Branch Board of Australia in Canberra," Khofifah said. (rif)
