Surabaya, NU Online
Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Student Association (IPNU) Ahmad Syauqi called on president-elect Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) not to ignore important issues related to education.

The existence of NU students predominantly studying at Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) should equally and appropriately be taken into account as other formal and non-formal educational institutions.<>

The 20 percent education spending from the state budget (APBN) should be kept in balance between general education and pesantren," Syauqi told NU Online via phone in Surabaya on Thursday (9/7).

"The SBY's re-election, I think, is such supporting system dealing with various education programs in the circle of NU students as promised SBY in the course of education," Syauqi said.

As the NU student association, he said, IPNU had still maintained its credibility as a cadre organization. In its line of struggle, IPNU would stay committed to its organization directions namely studying, struggling and having fear of God.

"Whoever the next (Indonesian) president would be, NU students will remain studying, struggling and having fear of God to prepare the future national cadres," Syauqi said. (was)
