Inter-sectarian conflict should be kept on guard

The rising flow of religious-nuance and inter-sectarian conflicts should be kept on guard. It is strongly alleged that there are hidden scenarios to globally disturb Muslims stability behind the conflicts.
Chairman of the Central Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Movement (PB PMII) Hery Haryanto Azumi told NU Online here on Wednesday (26/12).<>
He made the statement following the attacks by a mob in the name of Islamic organization in Manis Lor village, Jalaksana district, Kuningan regency, West Java, leaving four people injured some time ago.
He was of view the brutal attacks by the large crowd on the people and property of Ahmadiyah were clear examples of the backwardness of Muslims in the effort of improving Islamic image that is always accused of most of the time using violence in dealing with any problem. That's why, he said, PMII condemns in strongest terms the unacceptable behaviors.
"The tragedy was a backwardness in the midst of our efforts to improve Islamic image that has still been viewed as 'anger', 'unbendingness', wildness, and 'terrorism'," he said.
In this respect, he called on groups using always violence to take more strategic approaches in handling problems facing Muslims in the country.
Hery also urged the government to crack down on actors of the Tuesday's tragedy. "The government should protect its citizens from any threat of injustice, violence, and discrimination."
Formerly, chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Masdar F Mas'udi also strongly condemned the attack on the Ahmadiyah community. He said the attack as a clear violation of law. (rif)
