The Secretary General of the NU's International Conference of Islamic Scholars (ICIS) said that he had formerly prepared his paper from his country for personally seeing serious issues on poverty in developing countries all over the world including Indonesia.

"I bring the paper focusing especially on the poverty issues, namely the struggle of Islam in poor regions," he said.

The problem of poverty, he said, should be considered as such a joint enemy for it has still made many countries remain in difficulties.

"Religion should increase its prophetic roles in dealing with the poverty in the world," the leader of Al Hikam Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), Malang, East Java said.

Speaking before thousands of the world's religious figures, he said that the most important thing in fighting against the poverty was the involvement of world community especially Muslim countries to boost mutual cooperation.

"We need to conduct mutual cooperation to improve economy," the former Chairman of the East Java's Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Board (PWNU) said.

All participants attending the purposeful forum welcomed Hasyim's positive initiatives with a great interest. They were of view that the poverty was absolutely a vulnerable problem in many countries in the world.

In his paper, he also delivered important points of the last year's ICIS in Jakarta that was attended by some 300 religious figures and Muslim scholars from 53 countries.

We would stay in the US for two weeks before leaving for Sudan to meet with Muslim figures and scholars there related to the NU's much-awaited ICIS in Jakarta that will expectedly be held in July this year. (nam)
