Gus Dur-Kalla OK to be on good terms

Former Indonesian President KH Abdurrahman "Gus Dur" Wahid and Vice President Jusuf Kalla have agreed to come to an agreement over the non-budgetary funds of the National Logistics Agency (Bulog). The peace agreement was reached as both were meeting at the Jakarta's Four Season Hotel on Wednesday.

"Both sides have come to an agreement. In short, both want to settle the case without little fuss," Gus Dur's lawyer, Ihsan Abdullah said.<>

Gus Dur filed slander charges against Kalla over his remarks made at a public student forum in Cibubur, East Jakarta, on April 9 2007.

During the Golkar Party student forum, Kalla said Gus Dur requested a sum of money from Kalla when he was still chairing the National Logistics Agency.

In response to Kalla Remarks, Gus Dur then filed slander charges at the Central Jakarta court for damaging over alleged comments slurring his name.

According to Ihsan, Gus Dur-Kalla's meeting was part of a mediating process to be brought to trial at the Central Jakarta court.

Both Gus Dur and Kalla's lawyers would immediately meet in person in discussing matters relating to mediation techniques.

Ihsan said, as Muslims and public figures both then OK to make peace.

While, Kalla said, the peace agreement (islah) was reached because he himself and Gus Dur did not want to sow seeds of discord that have so far occurred among the nation's leaders especially those having not come to power.
