Surabaya, NU Online
The East Java Religious Affairs office is to implement the ISO (International System Organization) 9001-2000 service quality standard in supervising the hajj pilgrimage this year, an official said.

"By the ISO 9001-2000 quality control we will be able to measure the services given to the hajj pilgrims by the Hajj Pilgrimage Committee (PPIH)," H Najiyullah, hajj affairs coordinator at the East Java Religious Affairs Office, said here Tuesday.<>

The Surabaya embarkation PPIH secretary said that the conditions which need to be met are included and identified in the list of needs of the pilgrims.

"Every activity has its own fixed standard and criteria, an improvement service act is needed if these standards and criteria are expected to be unfulfilled," he said.

Therefore, meeting the conditions of the PPIH would be another task to be done in the next haj season, to meet the pilgrims` satisfaction, and the feeling of satisfaction would increase in the future.

The Quality Management System (SMM) covers SMM documentation, quality standards, SMM documentation list, effectives and system maturity.

"Each of those points needs to be technically given further details on the institution`s services to the people under the SMM system, whether it has improved, and for furher improvement," he said.

For instance, the services for the pilgrims start from the registration to their departure which is systematically measured by the ISO 9001-200 SMM.

"The ISO 9001-2000 has a monitoring and control system, also relevant regulations," he said.

The reception of the pilgrims at every embarkation point needs to be adjusted to the Boarding Calls Notice signed by the regency Religious Affairs section chief with the approval of the hajj pilgrimage organizing fee payment official.

"A confirmation check to the local religious affairs service can be done if there are data incompatibility, because everything is documented," he was quoted by Antara news agency as saying.

Najiyullah said that the ISO 9001-200 SMM implementation for the hajj in East Java`s Religious Affairs Service was started since July, with PT Surveyor Indonesia as the organizer.

"The ISO 9001-2000 SMM Hajj service is still to be internally audited in September and externally in October, with the result contained in a systematic ISO service," he said.

The ISO in the hajj pilgrimage is applied because the Hajj and Umroh directorate general is committed to implement the quality of the Haj services in a system meeting the pilgrims needs and expectations.

"The religious Affairs director general has tried the ISO 9001-2000 SMM at four embarkation spots, namely Surabaya, Medan, Makassar and Bekasi. With the ISO, shortages in the service to the pilgrams can be detected and a solution provided," he said. (dar)
