The State Intelligence Agency (BIN) said it believes security agencies will be able to capture the country`s most wanted terrorist, Noordin M Top, through hard work and close cooperation with the community.

BIN Deputy Chief As`ad Said Ali said here on Tuesday anybody could capture a suspected terrorist but people should not take the law into their own hands.<>

"Leave the matter to the police who will follow the legal process," he said after addressing a seminar on the concept of the Pancasila state at President University here.

"I believe Noordin Top is still in Indonesia. When the time comes, he can definitely be arrested," he was quoted by Antara newsagency as saying.

But he declined to reveal the hideouts of Noordin who is blamed for masterminding several terror attacks, including on the JW Marriott Hotel in Jakarta in 2003, the Australian Embassy in Jakarta in 2004 and Bali in 2005.

Noordin is also linked to the July 17 bomb blasts on the JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels in Jakarta that left nine people dead and 53 others injured.

Only recently, the police shot dead a terrorist, whom they initially thought was Noordin, at a house in Temanggung, Central Java. (dar)

But a DNA test conducted by the police revealed the man shot dead was Ibrohim, a florist at both JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton hotels who was known as a field operator and the one who had brought bombs into the two hotels.

"To be sure, the police are working hard to capture the terrorist (Noordin)," he said. (dar)
