Affected by floods, Pesantren Langitan to send its santris back home

The Islamic boarding school (pesantren) of Langitan, Widang district, Tuban regency, East Java, having been still affected by floods has sent its santris (students) back home.

While waters have receded in Bojonegoro, the overflowing of Bengawan Solo river has now posed threats in many other areas in East Java such as Lamongan, Gresik, and Tuban.<>

Amirin, one of teachers at the pesantren explained that his santris whose homes around pesantren were inundated by floodwaters had since Friday returned home. While others still staying in the pesantren led by his excellency KH Abdullah Faqih have been Evacuated to the second and third floors.

He said most of his santris returning home were female. At about 70 percent of around 1500 female santris and 50 percent of 2000 male santris had returned home.

While Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Boards in the flood-affected areas and the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) have presented relief to floods' victims.

Floods in Widang were caused by the dike break of Bengawan Solo in Mbraho, Tegalrejo village on Wednesday and seemed to have inundated surrounding areas. (mkf)
