Every people or group hopes the happening of change to get a better life. The hopes are most of the time connected to certain events, such as holy day or the change of time like the coming of new year. Every new year is always followed by new hopes. Different from some years ago, the hopes are now spilled out and littered with such optimism, or we could say it is full of euphoria symbols .
It is a little bit difference, when society is getting wiser, that from year after year a life is not getting easier like its expectation, even getting worse. It does not mean without hopes, the society realizes that the change with all its hopes will happen if accompanied by the planned steps and done consistently. We can not just give it to the time rotation, waiting and sleeping or have a great party, waiting the magic coming from the sky. Well those wishes merely nothingness, on the contrary merely disasters which come.&l<>t;br />
The awareness spreads well, it is wished to be a tool for the development of new ethos in the society, working hard based on honest value. The extinction of all wishes, even the destruction of a plan and a program happens when the executors do not do honestly. This is the point of matter that we face today, is not only foreign influence, but also inner factor, internal factor when there is no honesty. When dishonesty spreads out, what will happen is the feeling of distrust to each other. If it happens, all social pathologies, social conflicts, and criminalities will spread out,
The dishonesty has overwhelmed almost all society levels, from the lowest until the highest. In lower society for instances, they cook foods for consumer by mixing a lot of dangerous substances, cooked as they like, and preserved the foods with poisoning material. Higher societies do the same too, they do development program abusing, let the society suffering and merely serving “the haves”.
If all of those happening, there is nothing to be wished, both the will and the wise of society, and the kind hearted of officials, do not give any wish. The wish is not coming just like that, we may wish something happening if we have fulfilled all the agendas and the requirements. In religious language, tawakal ( waiting hopefully to Allah ) is meaningful if we have done amal (do something good ). And vice versa, do something good has got praying value if it accompanied by waiting hopefully to Allah. There is a close connection between faith and do something good, because the faith must be reflected in awareness and action.
Connected to the coming of Christian new year or Islamic new year, many people wish the happening of change, so changing can be planned by preparing pre-condition. It needs drastic steps to change old customs which lazy and dishonest by building new ethos, hard working accompanied by honesty. Islam religion can be used as motivator in this agenda. Why Islam can not do that when others religions can. Islam also teaches hard working and honesty values too, doesn’t it.
It happens when Islam community get diseases as predicted by Prophet, namely hubbud dunya wa karahiyatul maut ( love of material and reluctant to fight ). The diseases will destroy fighting spirit, if every activity is recognized as a work, including religious field. Because it is recognized as working, then what becomes the foremost thing is not the quality but the payment. While the effort to develop society needs fighting and sacrificing. For those who are greedy to the material, impossible for them to give devotion, because their time merely for chasing the material, and the material is not spent for the religion and the country interest.
Returning back the religious spirit to devotion field and fighting will eliminate the greediness and dishonesty. When the society have behaved honesty and have worked hard, the wishes can be spilled out again. The change not happens in a flash light, but it needs stepping process. This step looks unimportant, but this is exactly the heaviest step. Toughness and patience are absolutely required. (Mun’im DZ)
