The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) decided that the NU 34th Congress would be held on December 23-25, 2021. General Chairman of PBNU KH Said Aqil Siroj (Kiai Said) made the remarks during the Plenary National Conference (Munas) of Alim Ulama and the NU Grand Conference (Konbes) on Saturday (25/9).

The decision was taken at the deliberations of the PBNU General Chairman with Rais 'Aam of PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar, Katib Aam PBNU KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, and Secretary General of PBNU H Ahmad Helmi Faishal Zaini.

"Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. In order to maintain the dignity of Nahdlatul Ulama and the continuity of the Munas and Konbes in a calm and peaceful situation, formerly I took the initiative to consult with Khadratus Sheikh Rais 'Aam, Katib 'Aam, and the Secretary General," Kiai Said said.

"And thank God we agreed and decided that the NU 34th Congress would be held on December 23-25, 2021. Given that the implementation of all activities of the Congress would comply with health protocols and get the approval of the Covid-19 task force both at the national and regional levels ," he added.

Previously, Rais Aam of PBNU KH Miftachul Akhyar apologized to all NU board members at all levels and NU members (Nahdliyin) for the PBNU delay in carrying out the Munas-Konbes agenda due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Sincerely, on behalf of the PBNU, I apologize profusely, to all levels of the Nahdlatul Ulama management at all levels, for the delay of PBNU during the Covid-19 pandemic in running the organization so that it has not been able to carry out the 34th Congress in October 2021 as the decision of the Grand Conference held in 2020," he said.

He said that the Munas and Konbes were currently being held as part of an effort to make a definite decision on the schedule for the NU 34th Congress.

In addition, the holding of the 2021 Munas and Konbes as a medium for all NU regional board members to convey the aspirations of the NU Branch Boards in their respective regions.

Approximately 11 months from the mandate of the 33rd congress has been missed, both in its service period and in its program. If nothing has been completed, he said, it was a limitation or negligence on the part of the board members.

"We often hear a rule that reads, among other things, only because the dlarar (danger) is not yet clear, (and) is not yet real, we finally withdraw the real dlarar," the leader of the Miftachussunnah Islamic Boarding School, Surabaya, East Java, said.

At the end of his opening statement, Kiai Miftach called on all participants to intend to participate in the 2021 Munas and Konbes as a form of solemnity in carrying out their mandate properly.

"Let's be consistent by intending and accepting God's provision, we carry out this mandate as well as possible," he hoped.
