General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi has called on all of the nation's elements to increasingly keep on guard against any religion-based transnational movements. These movements could really disturb the world nations' relationship.
"The transnational movements would not only have a negative impact on the the transnational movements themselves but also on economy, culture, social and so on including international politics that is the disturbance of nations' relationship," Hasyim said at a dialogue on Islam and State at the NU office, Jln. Kramat Raya 164, Jakarta, Thursday.<>
The dialogue taking up religious spirit on national politics was attended by Chairman of the NU Supreme Council KH Ma'ruf Amin, Chairman of the Central Board of Muhammadiyah Yunahar Ilyas, Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Intelligence Agency As'ad Said Ali, Chairman of the Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI) Pdt Andreas A Yewangoe, Pdt Richard M Daulay, secretary of the Interfaith and Religious Dialogue Commission of the Bishops' Conference of Indonesia (KWI) Fr Benny Susetyo.
Hasyim explained, the transnational movements could disturb nations' relationship due to the fact that they had so far tried to "undermine" the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," Hasyim said, adding that they had tried to establish a concept of Islamic state in the beloved country of ours.
The President of the World Conference on Religions for Peace was of view that religious visions should be synergized with the national political interests and not be confronted one another. In turn, the religious life could be harmonious in such a way within the frame of the NKRI. (rif)
