Jakarta, NU Online
General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said here Friday that he would not attend a conference taking up international khilafah, organized by Indonesian Hizbut Tahrir (HTI) on coming 12 August 2007 at the Bung Karno Sports Hall in Senayan, Jakarta.

Through any pamphlets and Jumat's bulletins disseminated by HTI, it was mentioned that KH Hasyim Muzadi would reportedly give religious sermon with other Muslim leaders.<>

"I will not come to the conference for Nahdlatul Ulama and Hizbut Tahrir have different views dealing with the concept of nationality and Indonesia in nature," Hasyim said.

The caretaker of the Malang's Al Hikam Islamic boarding "Pesantren" school explained more details to public either his capacity as the leader of the country's largest Muslim organization or the Muslim figure. His coming could perhaps be perceived that NU would support Khilafah Islamiyah (Islamic State) as campaigned by the HTI.

Though both NU and HTI have long time struggled for upholding Islamic legacies, but again and again both have literally dissenting opinions related to the concept of nation/state. NU has struggled for the independence of the nation and remained support the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), while HTI has focused its struggle on Khilafah Islamiyah. (mkf)
