General chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi said here Thursday that the vision and the style of NU struggle used moderate ways rather than extreme.
Hasyim said that for any reason the extremization of religion and the liberalization of thought were absolutely opposed to the NU Khittah (principle).<>
"So, violating the Khittah is not only holding double position in political parties or matters dealt with politics. The liberal and the right extreme are also opposed to the Khittah," Hasyim said.
As for Hasyim, the NU Khittah consisted of three important parts, the fisrt was the one organizing the identity of NU, saying that NU followed the Islamic teachings of what so-called as Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah.
"In the field of fiqh, NU follows one of the four madzhab (Islamic schools of thought). In the field of tasawuf, NU follows Junaid Al Baghdadi and Imam Ghazali. In the field of theology (akidah), NU follows (Abu Hasan) Al Asy'ari and Al Maturidi," he said.
For that reason, he reiterated that both the extremization of religion and the liberalization of thought were opposed to the NU vision and lines of truggle.
The second, he said, was the one related to the NU independence for NU is an independent organization depending not on any party including political party of mass organization.
In the social and state matters, Hasyim said, NU was the amar ma'ruf nahi munkar organization for not being part of bureaucracy and opposed to government.
While the third was dealt with the freedom of speech, saying that as the Khittah NU was declared in 1984, NU followers chosen one political party only instead of choosing a figure. In the following process, he said, PBNU facilitated the birth of the National Awakening Party (PKB) in 1998 and there have now been some 38 political parties.
Hasyim also expressed his concern that many Nu followers had misunderstood the NU Khittah as if the true Khittah is doing nothing. "Whereas that is the same as giving opportunity to others to organize NU in the name of Khittah.
The leader of Pesantren Al Hikam expected the coming NU 32nd Congress which will be held in Makassar in January 2010 to be capable of responding various emerging political situations. (rif)
