NU is no longer involved in handling terrorism, says Hasyim

Efforts to deal with such cases as bomb attacks and terrorism has recently not been conducted comprehensively as the ones that occured between 2002-2005 in which all parties involved in a coordination between security officials, intelligence agency and mass organizations including NU.

General chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Hasyim Muzadi made the remarks here on Wednesday, adding that NU along with its all networks had so far focused on religious teachings to eradicate fundamentalism.<>

"In turn, we can proceed. The fight against terrorism is comprehensive. So NU with its all networks have focused more on religious affairs to eradicate fundamentalism," Hasyim said.

The president of the World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP) stressed the importance of the participation of all parties  in dealing with various threat posed by extremists.

Hasyim said that as the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization NU had ever been involved in handling terrorist attacks in Bali,Poso and Maluku as chief of the State Intelligence Agency was served by AM Hendropriyono, former Home Affairs Minister Hari Sabarno and former Indonesian Police chief Dai Bachtiar.
