Muslimat NU to empower farmer-sailor

Muslimat NU in the period of 2006-2011 with its most members of farmland and coast community would develop such a program of empowering farmers, sailors, and even biological environment.

The planned program has been conducted in cooperation with connected departments such as Department of Agruculture, Forestry, Cooperation, and Biological Environment.

“The effort to cultivate relationship with others we conduct is to implement Muslimat’s vision and missions in effort to give the people a more prosperous life,” Chairwoman of Muslimat NU Mahsusoh Tosari Wijaya told NU Online, Tuesday (27/6)

The cooperation between Muslimat NU and Ministry of Agriculture was signed by General Chaiemowan of Muslimat NU Khofifah Indar Parawansa and Minister of Agriculture Anton Apriyanto in Senayan, last Sunday (25/6) as Muslimat’s new leadership inauguration. Both agreed to undertake such a training of developing agriculture products, capital access and marketing.

“The farmers will be trained to implement agriculture technology from cultivation of seedlings, time after rice harvest, and how to handle its marketing. They will also be facilitated to get lower credit access,” Mahsusoh said.

Muslimat’s involvement in agriculture sector was a new experience as a real effort to increase prosperity to its members. “Increasing prosperity to the people is also a religious service and importantly organization activity, not only board meeting,” she said. 

While Muslimat’s cooperation with Ministry of Forestry was an effort of reforesting, say that program of planting a thousand trees. The ministry of forestry would also give Muslimat’s members to plant provided seeds. 

Several years ago, Jakarta’s Muslimat also conducted the same program of planting 2000 hardwood trees. Iryani Suaidah, one of Jakarta's Regional Board of Muslimat NU said that the program had campaigned “Young We Plant, Old We Harvest”.

“Mothers had also been taught to plant hardwood trees provided by the government,” Iryani said, (mkf)
