Hot mudflow victims are planning to stage another rally on Monday, but this time with the support of university students and members of youth organizations.
They were scheduled to march from the Monument of Proclamation in Central Jakarta to the residences of Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Aburizal Bakrie and Vice President Jusuf Kalla. Later they would proceed to the Hotel Indonesia roundabout, and finally to the State Palace, said Sumitro, a spokesman of the hot mudflow victims, mostly residents of Tanggulangin Anggun Sejahtera housing complex, here on Monday.<>
"Meanwhile, our representatives are expected to meet with the Social Affairs Minister at the minister’s office and the Parliament Building," he said as quoted by the state news agency..
Youth’s Organizations, which would join the rally, included GMKI, GMNI, Papernas, LMND, PMKRI, PMII, FMN, GMNK, HMI, KNPI, LS ADI, BPJ, AMP, FAM UI, and BEM UIN.
Soemitro said that this time the mudflow victims would ask the social affairs minister to keep his promise that he would especially deal with the mudflow problem affecting the residents of the Tanggulangin Anggun Sejahtera housing complex, which is located in Sidoarjo district, East Java Province.
Last Friday, the social affairs minister held meetings with the minister of state enterprises, Bank Indonesia’s officials and Lapindo Brantas company’s representatives.
The hot mudflow victims coming from Sidoarjo last week had also staged a rally in front of the State Palace. They demanded that the Government compensated them 100 percent in cash or full payment for their properties inundated by the incessant flow of hot mud coming from Lapindo Brantas gas well in Sidoarjo.
The hot mudflow from Lapindo Brantas Inc. drilling operations in Porong, Sidoarjo, East Java, has not died down but even grew wilder causing the central dyke to collapse again on Sunday (April 22).
The flow of hot mud at KM47 to the village of Siring in the subdistrict of Porong again threatened rail tracks. Unless it could be overcome immediately it would inundate the tracks. (dar)
