The World Muslim Brotherhood Conference sponsored by the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) in Jakarta on 19-20 December 2009 will be opened by Coordinating Minister for Politics, Legal, and Security affairs, Djoko Suyanto.

General chairman of PBNU KH A. Hasyim Muzadi made the remarks at a press conference here on Wednesday (16/12), saying various conflicts especially in the Islamic world would possibly influence security conditions in Indonesia.<>

"We hope the coordinating minister for politics, legal, and security affairs to open this meeting because whatever happens in the international scope will give influence for Indonesia," Hasyim said.

"We also hope the minister to involve himself in the discussions so that he can expectedly predict any ideology from the international context, ranging from the liberal to the extreme coming to Indonesia," he added.

In the much-awaited conference, the Indonesia's largest Muslim organization has also invited Foreign Affairs Minister Marty Natalegawa in addition to involving activists to at least give feedback and suggestions to the foreign affairs department.

"The Foreign Affairs Department has so far received feedback from the state officials," Hasyim said, adding that in the 'unstable' country, movement leaders have not always been in line with their government's policies.

Hasyim said, the conference would also be attended by Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali, adding that a wide range of religious movements should be taken into account by the religious affairs department for having international roots.

"We have also invited the foreign affairs minister in dealing with cross-mass organizational and cross-religious activities in addition to having well-managed international documents and memories," he said. (nam)
