Minister: The battle for power will lead to Islamic radicalism

The battle for political power among Muslim groups in various countries will be one of factors leading to existence of Islamic radicalism.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djoko Suyanto made the remarks as opening the World Muslim Brotherhood Conference in Jakarta on Saturday.<>

"The battle for power among Muslims has restrict the Muslim groups themselves and even will be capable of causing radicalism in its various forms and group disputes," he said.

He expected Muslim leaders from around the world participating in the conference to be peace facilitators in their own country.

Suyanto was of the view that the Muslim leaders have reached an agreement, Islam would be a religion bringing prosperity and peace to all humans.

The minister added that Indonesia could a pilot project for all countries around the world for initiating dialogues, unity, and solidarity among Muslim groups.

Suyanto said that Islamic teachings were once again not opposed to the modern civilization, adding that Islam had contributed great civilizations to the world.

"Islam will be the biggest religion in the world and approximately be amounted to some 30 percent from the world population. It is time for us to rebuild various important Islamic civilizations for the world," he said. (nam)
