The Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) led by KH Hasyim Muzadi has been considered successful in promoting NU to international community through what so-called as the International Conference of Islamic Scholars.

In addition, Hasyim has most of the time involved in any international forum to help promote world peace and developed NU wings abroad through the establishment of the Special Branch Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PCINU).<>

Chairman of PBNU KH Abbas Mu'in made the remaks following a report that Hasyim would no longer monimate himself in the upcoming NU congress.

"Kiai Hasyim is a leader capable of bringing NU to be better and more recognized by Islamic world escpecially in overseas," Abbas told NU Online here on Monday (27/7).

Abbas said that nearly his two periods of leadership, Hasyim had been regarded able to further introduce NU as such a world religious organization to international community for its important roles in promoting peace values deeply rooted in Islam.

Unfortunately, Abbas said, Hasyim had not yet been able to organizationally build internal NU networks especially in dealing with economic networks.

As for Abbas, the step taken by Hasyim for not nominating himself in the NU congress ahead was a good examaple, adding that all this should wisely and appropriately be taken into consideration.

"This news indicates that Kiai Hasyim is educating (NU) board members to behave properly so that we should also interpret it properly," he said. (min)
