Gus Sholah ready to be nominated as general chairman hopeful

Leader of the Jombang's Tebuireng Islamic boarding school (pesantren) KH Salahuddin Wahid or popularly known as Gus Sholah recently expressed his readiness to be general chairman hopeful of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) if there are branch boards supporting him.
Gus Sholah said that there had so far been no branch boards requesting himself as one of the general chairman candidates of the Indonesia's biggest Muslim organization.<>
He said that if the were adequate supports from at least 90 branch board, whoever should be ready (to be the general chairman nominee).
If he got such mandate, Gus Sholah said, both the vision and mission he would implement were improving some weaknesses in the period of the previous leadership like the involvement of NU figures in the practical politics, including improving leadership whose the same understanding, awareness and skill of organizing.
The former member of the Human Right Commission strongly denounced any act of money politics to pursue political posts in NU because all this would in turn damage the ulema organization.
"if there are adequate number (of branch boards) nominating myself as (general chairman hopeful), I will not pay (them)," Gus Sholah said, adding that it was a crazy act if using money politics in the much-awaited NU ongress which will be held in Makassar in the early next year. (mkf)
