The supreme council of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Mustofa Bisri (Gus Mus) said that the coming leadership of the Indonesia'sbiggest Muslim organization should be led by young people who are capable of managing organization and have purposeful vision.
"I say that the young should take the lead, remember! How old were KH Wahid Hasyim and Kiai Mahfudz Siddiq as serving as chairmen of NU? They were young enough," He told NU Online recently, adding that the figure like Kiai Idham Cholid was also still young as leading NU.<>
The leader of the Rembang's Raudhatut Thalibien Islamic boarding school (pesantren) said that so far there had been such opinion that the old gives no more opportunity to the young so that the regeneration process cannot be made.
"The young should take the lead, let us not hope the young to promote the old for all this will give no opportunity to themselves," he said.
One of efforts to boost regeneration is by limiting the period of serving not more than twice in the NU leadership so that the young would have more opportunity to involve themselves in the organization. (mkf)
