President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono discussed the revitalization of strategic industries with former President B.J. Habibie during a meeting in State Palace Friday.
State Secretary Hatta Radjasa said Yudhoyono expressed his intention to develop strategic industries in trying to meet the need of domestic market.<>
Strategic industries are being developed by a number of state companies including ship maker PT PAL Indonesia and PT IKI, weapons maker PT Pindad, aircraft maker PT DI, electronic company PT LEN.
"A number of strategic industries have given benefits," Hatta told the press after the meeting, adding that the revitalization of the industries will give economic benefits and help provide the country with its defense equipments.
Therefore, according to Hatta, the Indonesian ship makers are not only tasked to produce defense equipments, but also other products like oil tanker ships, fishing boats, and cargo ships.
While meeting with Habibie, Yudhoyono was accompanied by a number of ministers and president directors of state enterprises including PT PAL Indonesia Adwin Suryohadiprodjo, PT Pindad BudiSantoso, and PT DI Rudi M. Mokobombang. (tjp/dar)
