13 NU madrassas in Nias yet to be improved

Chairman of the executive "Tanfidziyah" council of the Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Board of Nias regency Abdul Madjid SE said some 13 NU madrassas (Islamic schools) of 15 destroyed by both the tsumani disaster and earthquake three years ago had not yet been reconstructed by the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Board (BRR).

"We have officially sent a letter to the BRR of Nias. But imagine till now there have been no response. It has been running for three years. We have called on Minister of Public Works Djoko Kirmanto responsibble for the Aceh and Nias BRR to evaluate the Nias BRR performance," Abdul Madjid told NU Online by phone on Friday (28/12).<>

Madjid said, the 13 madrassas were Islamic Senior High (Gunung Sitoli), MI NU 2 (Laweha), MI NU (Walu Afulu), MI NU (Bulunio), MI NU (Gamo), MI NU (Tagaule), MI NU (Botohaenga), MI Islamiyah (La'aya), MI Islamiyah (Fofala), MI Islamiyah (Sinene'eto), MI NU (Humene)MI NU (Mo'awo Lahewa), MI NU (Mo'awo Gunung Sitoli). While the ones having been reconstructed were NU Mo'awo Gunung Sitoli and MI NU Miga.

He added the NU schools were really needed because many children from around 30 million Nahdliyin (NU followers) living there were in need of religious education.

"We have again and again expected those whose competence in dealing with the problems to immediately rebuild the destroyed schools," he said.

While Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Students Association (IPNU) of North Sumatra Parulin Siregar asserted that his organization had urged related parties to soon rebuild the schools. (mhs)
