Vice President Boediono on Friday (July 2) opened the 14th Congress of Young Women's Organization of Nahdlatul Ulama (Fatayat NU) at Pondok Gede Haj Dormitory in Jakarta.
In opening the congress, Vice President Boediono was in the company of his wife Madame Herawati Boediono. Also presence on the occasion were Minister of Child Protection and Women's Empowerment Linda Agum Gumelar, Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hassan, State Minister for Disadvantaged Regions Helmy Faisal, and Madame Muhaimin Iskandar. />
Fatayat NU had been built in promoting the deep awareness of women in building equality and gender fairness, Executive Chairwoman of Fatayat NU Maria Ulfah Ansor said.
In its five years of management, Fatayat NU focused on the program of promoting the rights of women in the sector of reproduction covering husband-wife relationship, violence on women, marriage of under-aged children, unwanted pregnancy, and circumcision for young girls.
Not only that, Fatayat NU had also achieved some progress in the political arena and public activities, Maria said.
She added, in the congress held from July 1 to 4, 2010, Fatayat NU was determined to close its ranks to further promote the rights of Indonesian women for the realization of a fair and welfare community.
The congress was attended by representatives from the 33 provinces in the country and 367 Fatayat branches including those overseas. (dar)
