Three NU cadres to participate in short course in US

Three cadres of the Indonesia’s biggest Muslim organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) of Central Java would reportedly be participated in a short course, sponsored by the Indonesian Center for Civic Education and Hertland International in the United States of America (US).

In the program, they would study issues like education system, school leadership and management, culture, and democracy for three weeks.<>

The three cadres were Imam Yahya Chairman of Central Java’s NU Institute for Human Resource Study and Development (Lakpesdam NU), Hery Nugroho (Editor-in-chief of the Majalah Ma’arif NU Central Java), and Siti Ma’unah (Vice Secretary of NU Young Women Organization (Fatayat NU) of Central Java.

The Secretary of Central Java’s Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU), HM Najahan Musyafak said the purposeful program was part of the NU efforts in especially increasing educational quality.

He said that NU would always selectively receive any other feedbacks from others.

“Schools, madrasas as well as NU pesantrens in Indonesia at their quantities are really huge,” he told NU Online here on Sunday, adding that NU must enhance its educational institutions.

Musyafak who is also a lecturer of High Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Walisongo asserted that NU had huge potentials. He further gave an example that in Pati, Central Java, there was a madrasa being recognized in international world.

He said that many NU students had been admitted in state universities in the country and overseas.

“Even following the reform (era), NU cadres are directly given such opportunity in accessing education in all over the world,” he said, adding that if the scene could continually be projected, “it is not impossible that NU education would be increasingly in progress.” (mhn)
