South Sumatra`s 355 would-be hajj pilgrims off to Medina

South Sumatra governor H Alex Noerdin on Sunday here saw off a total of 355 would-be hajj pilgrims from South Sumatra province leaving for Medina, Saudi Arabia.
The governor asked the provincial would-be hajj pilgrims to keep their health during their stay in Saudi Arabia, so that they can concentrate on the hajj pilgrimage as the fifth pillar of Islam.
"The main purpose of performing the hajj pilgrimage is to improve faith and devotion (to the God Almighty)," Alex Noerdin reminded the would-be pilgrims.
According to him, the provincial government gave financial assistance in the form of transportation fee worth one million rupiah to each of the would-be hajj pilgrims. (dar)
