RI awaiting clarification from Egypt over arrested students

The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is still waiting for clarifications from the Egyptian government over the arrest of four Indonesian students in Egypt for alleged involvement in a terrorist network.
Foreign ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah said here on Saturday last month he sent a letter to the Egyptian government asking for clarification about the matter.<>
"We have asked for clarifications and the four Indonesian students have been set free," the foreign ministry spokesman said.
The four Indonesians who are students of the Al Azhar University and were arrested by the Egyptian police are Faturrahman, Arzil, Ahmad Yunus and Tasrih Sugandi.
During their detention on June 28-30, 2009, they were tortured by the Egyptian security officials.
Besides the four Indonesian students, the Egyptian police also arrested a number of students who came from Russia, Denmark, Uzbekistan and Britain.
"While waiting for clarifications, we are also evaluating and analyzing various matters relating to the incident... it is not impossible that they had made wrong arrests," the foreign ministry spokesman said.
It was earlier reported that four Al Azhar University students in Egypt hailing from Rokan Hulu regency, Riau province, had been allegedly tortured by Egyptian police after they had been detained for three days without any clear reasons.
Faturrahman (23), a fourth semester student at Al Azhar University, came from Pematang Berangan village, Rambah subdistrict, Rokan Hulu regency.
Ahmad Yunus, also a fourth semester student, came from Bangun Purba subdistrict while Azril, first semester student came from Rokan IV Koto, and Tasrih Sugandi, also first semester student, came from the SP4 area.
"My kid brother (Faturrahman) and three of his friends were arrested without any clear reason, and they were also clobbered while in Egyptian police detention for three days," Roudhatul Firdaus, elder brother of Faturrahman, said.
Roudhatul added that the four students were held by Egyptian police from June 28 till July 1. (dar)
